City Breathing

One day of Rome's air — PM2.5 at 6.8 times the WHO limit — as a single vascular form that breathes faster the dirtier the day gets.

2026data portrait

Rome, 27 February 2026, from early afternoon into the evening. PM2.5 reaches 102.6, NO₂ 97.9, O₃ 30 — 6.8 and 3.9 times the WHO guideline respectively, on a day with almost no wind and 85% humidity to hold it all in place.

The form holds a two-second cycle throughout, and the cycle is the only clock that matters: it opens the day holding, at 57, and closes it thickening, at 116. Nothing in the frame is added as the air worsens. The same body simply works harder.
